When Arlene's co-worker, Esther, suggested that Arlene write to her nephew, Joe, serving overseas in the army during WWll, Arlene kindly sent off a letter hoping to boost the morale of the homesick soldier. Little did she know that one letter would spark a long-distance romance and lead to a lasting future as husband and wife. Joseph and Arlene Rea were married on April 12, 1947, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Chicago and will soon celebrate 70 years of marriage. There have been plenty of life's ups and downs during the past 70 years, but Joe and Arlene weathered the storms and sailed the smooth waters alike with an unwavering commitment to each other, their marriage, their faith and their family. We thank you, Mom and Dad, for being exemplary parents and for the values you've taught us. We honor you for the commitment you've shown to one another and for the sacrifices you've made for our family. We celebrate your enduring love and are grateful for how God has richly blessed your marriage with five daughters, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, dear friends, health, laughter and wonderful memories. And to think it all began with a letter. Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad. We love you! Dianne, Barbara (Gary), Julie (Paul), Nancy and Sharon (Bob)
